The Problem

Did you know that in 2008, over 55 million people in Africa did not have clean water?

Of Kenya's population of 40.8 million people, they have a life expectancy of only 56 for males and 57 for women. This has been caused due to a lack of sanitary living conditions, in some cases, and limited access to fresh and clean water.

Access to water: The water used for drinking in many villages is often a 30-minute walk or even longer.  Many villages do not purify their water, they drink it as is, although the water is often filled with germs and bacteria. After people have collected water, (generally women, and even young girls as young as age eight), which is often 30 minutes or over to the site, they fill water buckets, weighing around 45 pounds when full, and walk back. Many villages rely on this as their only opportunity for water. In doing this act, there is a chance the women will get kidnapped or even raped. This not only can be dangerous for the women and girls, but can prevent them from having time to go to school. Because of this, the women growing up in these villages never get a proper education.

By drinking dirty water you can get very ill with diseases such as:
    --Typhoid fever
    --Dengue
    --Cholera
    --Diphtheria

Our goal is to find a way to give clean water to Sigowet, so many of the women will not have to walk for the needed water, and have a chance to get an education.
